What is penetration testing?

Penetration testing, also known as pen testing, is a security assessment that is conducted by experts in cybersecurity (sometimes called “white hat hackers”). The goal of pen testing is to discover and exploit vulnerabilities within a computer system, network or application. This simulated attack aims to uncover weaknesses in the system’s defenses that malicious actors could exploit.
